So ten friends got together in October 2006 to start thinking about how to go about this whole Bolivia thing. They started fund raising by getting naked on a hill in Wales, that calendar set them off with £2000. Things just carried on from there with a website, parties and more silly events. They hit the £10,000 target by June and then had to actually head over and do the challenge.
After a week in Argentina everyone arrived in Tupiza ready to get going. A week or so of acclimatising was coupled with researching what these villages and children actually needed most. They met local authorities, teachers, parents, the kids and started thinking about what would be best to do with the money.
Then came the climbing, 5 peaks 5 days. It really wasn't as easy as it sounds. The first one was fun, everyone made it to the top, the views were great, we were all buzzing. That kind of energy and enthusiasm didn't last and things got a whole lot tougher. We ended up making it to the top of 3 and half way up another. Happy enough.
The best bit was yet to come. We made it back to Tupiza totally exhausted after 12 days on the road to find boxes and boxes full of books, clothes, pens, crayons, toothbrushes, hats and gloves. Everything we bought had arrived safely and ready to go. Returning to some of the worlds remotest villages with all our aid was a thrilling end to an incredible year!
